Students will be involved in various laboratory activities and molecular data analysis, such as :

Basic & Advanced Laboratory Techniques:

  • DNA extraction from animal or plant tissue samples
  • DNA amplification with PCR (Polymerase Chain Reaction) method at specific gene locus (ex: COI, Control region, rbcL, ITS, etc.)
  • Agarose gel electrophoresis and documentation of amplification results

Genetic Data Analysis:

  • DNA sequence editing and analysis
  • Species identification using BLAST from GenBank database and BOLD System
  • Construction and interpretation of phylogenetic tree

Mini Research Project:

Participants work on independent projects related to local species and genetic conservation issues (which can be thesis topics).

Participant Requirements

  • Active undergraduate students (minimum 5th semester) majoring in Biology, Biotechnology, Environmental Science, Forestry, Marine Science, or other related majors
  • Interested in molecular genetics, conservation biology, or bioinformatics
  • Willing to participate in an intensive program for a minimum of 4 months.
