On 6–8 May 2025, BIONESIA had the opportunity to participate in the Lesser Sunda Seascape First Dialogue Meeting & Migratory Species Workshop held in Dili, Timor-Leste. This event marked an important first step in strengthening cross-border collaboration between Indonesia and Timor-Leste, particularly in the management of the interconnected marine areas within the Lesser Sunda Seascape.

The workshop was initiated by the Coral Triangle Initiative on Coral Reefs, Fisheries and Food Security (CTI-CFF) in collaboration with Yayasan Konservasi Indonesia, Conservation International, and GIZ. Its objectives were to share the latest research findings, identify future priorities, and provide a platform to explore potential transboundary cooperation for effective and sustainable marine conservation.

The forum brought together representatives from government agencies, non-governmental organizations, academia, and conservation partners from both countries to discuss strategies for managing migratory species and the critical marine habitats they depend on. The Lesser Sunda Seascape itself is a strategic region encompassing the waters of Nusa Tenggara and Timor-Leste, known for its high marine biodiversity and significant ecological value.

BIONESIA’s participation in this meeting underscores our commitment to supporting science-based management and building cross-border collaboration networks for integrated marine conservation. This initiative represents a promising foundation toward more meaningful and impactful transboundary marine conservation efforts.
